The Wrath of God

This is not a popular topic but nevertheless worth knowing about. There are many Hebrew and Greek translations of “wrath” and can refer to both God’s and man’s. It is an eternal attribute of God revealed toward whatever violates His eternal holiness. Human wrath, however, is flawed because of sin. God’s eternal wrath was aroused when sin came into existence. If God were not holy, then His wrath would not have been manifested as Paul mentions in Rom. 1:18. It had to be initially aroused against Lucifer (later Satan) who was cast out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12-15; Luke 10:18). Unsaved humans are called “by nature children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3). God’s wrath was revealed against the world in Noah’s day, the builders of the Tower of Babel, Sodom & Gomorrah, the Egyptians in Moses’ day, etc. God is extremely displeased with sin today, having no less wrath toward it than in the past. One day men will want to be hidden from it (Rev. 6:15-17). Believers in Christ will never experience God’s wrath (Rom. 5:9; 1 Thess. 1:10). That’s good news! Let’s wisely and passionately share this good news with this lost and dying world. God says, “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,’ declares the Lord God.’ Therefore, repent and live’” (Ezekiel 18:32). Thus, we should be deeply grateful to God for His eternal grace and eternal mercy. Blessings!
