The Work of the Holy Spirit in New Testament Times

The Work of the Holy Spirit in New Testament Times

I was asked about this, and here is my answer:

“Greetings Sister…The work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament is different from His work in the New Testament. The most obvious evidence is the existence of the church, the body of Christ, which didn't exist in the O.T. Jesus taught on the new work of the H.S. in John 14,15, & 16. The Book of Acts, especially chapters. 2, 8, 10, 13, 16, & 19, mention His special work in the early church. Paul also mentions His special work in the N.T. For instance...

  1. He intercedes for believers when they are praying - Rom. 8:26

  2. Anyone without the HS doesn't belong to Christ - Rom. 8:9

  3. He reveals unseen things to believers - 1 Cor. 2:9-12

  4. He prompts sinners to profess Christ as Lord - 1 Cor. 12:3

  5. He distributed spiritual gifts to believers in Christ - 1 Cor. 12:7-9

  6. He baptizes believers into the body of Christ, the church - 1 Cor. 12:13

  7. He seals sinners in Christ after they, first, hear the gospel and, second, believe it - Ephesians 1:13

There’s much more.

No Old Testament saint was a member of the NT church and thus did not experience the special work of the Holy Spirit that’s exclusively in NT times.

The Holy Spirit certainly worked in OT times but not as He does since the day of Pentecost when the church began. The church was a mystery in OT times (Eph. 3:1-13; Col. 1:24-28). There's so much more to this. Read all the passages. I hope this helps. Blessings!”
