The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds

The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

I woke up at 5:45am with this parable on my mind. I got up to study it, always praying to understand God’s intended meaning for the passage. I also studied good commentaries by godly Christian scholars. Some were more in-depth than others, but all were consistent. However, Jesus’ explanation is most important to me. The individuals in the parable (vss. 36-43) The Sower – Jesus His enemy – the devil The wheat – kingdom citizens (believers) The weeds – the devil’s children The servants – angels The place in the parable The field – world The period in the parable The church age til the end of the Great Tribulation The harvest – the end of the Great Tribulation The practical understandings 1. Christ sows the gospel thru believers verse 24 2. Yet, believers are sleeping” v. 25a 3. Satan counters with his false teaching v. 25b 4. An allowance is given for false teachers in the World vv. 29-30 5. The judgment of false teachers will be at harvest time vv. 39b-42 6. The blessed state of the believers in God’s kingdom v. 43 Challenging questions during this critical time in which we live: Is it still important to spread the gospel? Can “sleeping” believers be identified? Who are the truly awakened believers? Who are the false teachers? Is America’s God the Lord (Ps. :3:12)? Can the Bible still be trusted? Are believers willing to suffer for Christ? Is the coming harvest taken seriously? What’s your answer to the key question in Exodus 32:26? Is our resolve as believers the same as Joshua’s (Joshua 24:15)? Finally, stay mindful of Jeremiah 33:3 Blessings!
