The Light in Genesis 1:3

It's hard to explain "light"

Light (has no definite article) in Genesis 1:3. In general, "light" in Scripture represents knowledge of God, holiness, and truth. Since these three eternal  attributes of God existed prior to the creation, they have no beginning and thus cannot represent the church which has a beginning and was unknown until N.T. times (Eph. 3:4-6; Col. 1:26-27). Both passages say the church was a mystery (not revealed) in O.T. times. The light in Gen. 1:3, in my view, was probably God providing knowledge, holiness, and truth for man to comprehend them once he was created on the sixth day (Gen. 1:26-31).

After man sinned, his comprehension was soiled, and only Jesus can restore his heart and mind to understand the light in part until he sees Jesus face to face:

"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known" (1 Cor. 13:12).

Now, the life of Jesus is our life (John 1:4; Col. 3:3-4) because Jesus is the Light (knowledge of God, the Holy One, and the truth) of the world (John 8:12). Therefore, the light in Gen. 1:3 was spiritual. The light in Matt. 5:14-16 is us, believers. As the moon reflects the sun's light, so we as believers reflect the Son's light.

Glory to His holy name!🙌🏾

Blessings.
