“You were born 2 mos. before MLK was killed (4/4/68) and 4 mos. before Robert Kennedy was (June 5). So far, the 60’s was the worse decade in my lifetime. Yet I was blessed with you (my first of five children) and I was “born again” 4 months after your birth. By that I mean I became a changed man (a real Christian) because I believed Christ died for my sins and rose from the dead. Though not perfect, I have never been the same in my thinking and lifestyle. The Bible keeps my mind on God, and the Holy Spirit empowers me to live a godly life. My prayers keep me depending on God to help me resist temptations (read 1 Corinthians 10:13), to cleanse me, and to keep me from giving in to “presumptuous sins” (the ones easy for me to commit). See Psalm 19:12-13. That’s how it’s been for the past 52 years of my life. At 73, I’m still praising God for saving me from the power and penalty of sin and one future day from the presence of sin. That’s my prayer for all my five children. And, I still praise Him for giving you to me as my eldest son. I love you so much. Blessings!”
PS – Though raised by his grandfather, a Baptist pastor, Steven, a nice guy, is my only child who has never confessed to me that he trusts Christ as his Savior. God knows his heart, but I pray that I hear him confess Christ before I depart this life.
