I attended a very spiritually uplifting Bible conference on Genesis 1-3 in Oklahoma City Fri. & Sat. Much details were taught. One was regarding the “seed” of the serpent in Genesis 3:15. Obviously, the “seed” of the woman was physical, eventually bringing into history the incarnation (immaculate conception) of Jesus who, of course, was born of the Virgin Mary. But, who was the serpent’s (Satan’s) seed which had to be spiritual? Nothing is physical about the devil (called “evil one” [1John 2:13]). So, how did the serpent’s spiritual seed bruise the physical “seed” of the woman? Remember, Satan is the “father of lies” (John 8:44), “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31; 16:11), “the prince of the power of the air…the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2), and the one who blinded the minds of the Jewish and Roman rulers who hated and crucified Jesus (1 Corinthians 2:8; 2 Corinthians 4:4). So, his spirit, working through those he controlled, bruised (crucified) the “heel” of the physical seed of the woman (Christ) who, by His death and resurrection, bruised (destroyed) the spiritual “head” of Satan. See Revelation 20:10 for Satan/the devil being eventually cast into “the lake of fire and brimstone (hell). Thus, John 3:8 absolutely will be fulfilled- “…The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.”
That’s why Gen. 3:15 is called the “Proto” (first) “Evangelium”
(gospel), meaning the first good news promised just after Adam & Eve fell into sin. What a gracious and merciful God we serve! Blessings!
