Showing Love by Telling the Truth

My friend, Mark, doesn’t believe in three essential doctrines of the Christian faith: The Trinity, the deity (God-ness) of Christ, and the personality of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I don’t consider him a true Christian but a dear friend.

He sent a very lengthy text to answer my question about the identification of “Ya.” I still don’t understand. Here’s my response:

“I appreciate your taking the time to share your perspectives.

Although we’re on opposite sides of an impasse, my love is always extended to you. Yes, I get a lot of texts with questions and enjoy answering them as best as I can with Scripture.  Why? Because God’s word, the truth, is the best answer. Telling the truth is the only way to genuinely express God’s great love.

Truth is liberating (John 8:31-32). Love is God’s way of bonding us to Himself: ‘But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus’ (Eph. 2:4-6).

God loved us even while we were dead in our sins (Rom. 5:8). For that, I am more grateful than I could ever express. The Apostle Peter put it this way, ‘Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory’ (1 Peter 1:8).”

My prayer is that Mark believes in the word of God.

Blessings!
