Love for God Dispels Fear

One of the many underlying themes in Scripture for God’s children is “fear not.” I think of a passage like, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea” (Psalm 46:1-2). Fearlessness, to me, is rooted in a deep love for God. Thus, John wrote, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:18-19). Our love moves us to fear (reverence) God more than man, but we must also lovingly respect and pray for all men (1 Tim. 2:1-6). I believe this current crisis affords us as believers the opportunity to manifest love and fearlessness and to spread the gospel to a desperate and wicked world. I join every saint in prayer that God would strengthen us, dispel all fears, endow us with wisdom, and as Micah wrote, “…do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8b).

Let’s pray for the fearful, for those who have contracted the disease, for families whose loved ones died from it, for opportunities to share the gospel, and for wisdom as we chart our way through these challenging days. Remember, you have nothing to be afraid of if you know Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

May God see fit to use us for His glory.

Blessings!
