A friend texted that she prayed about helping a friend in need.
My response:
“Since you prayed about it, do as the Lord is leading you. Just don’t neglect to give something to your local church. Now, you can only do so much for your friend. She may have to let some things go, as painful as it may be. I’m ‘speaking’ from experience. Your help should be limited to her basic needs (food, clothing, water, and possibility live with you or homeless shelter). Why? Because you don’t want to keep her a dependent person. If not working, she should be looking for a job. If working, you need to know her budget, since you may be helping her financially. A one-time donation may be best rather than giving ongoing support. Again, do whatever God is leading you to do.
