“Have a Nice Day.” Who?Notice the missing noun in that nice statement, “You.” It could be plural or singular. It could mean “You already have a nice day” or “I hope you have a nice day.” Hopefully, the first statement is true and the second one becomes true. The Psalmist wrote, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). What day? A certain day of the week, a holiday, birthday, or anniversary? None of the above. According to the context, it was most likely a Jewish festival day (not clear which one) to celebrate God’s deliverance (see vs. 21) and His making the rejected stone the cornerstone (vss. 22, 23). Jesus applied these verses to Himself (Matthew 21:42; Mark 22:10, 11; Luke 20:17). Likewise, Paul and Peter did the same (Acts 4:11; Ephesians 2:20; 1 Peter 2:6-8).Therefore, since Jesus is our Cornerstone, and as saints we now live the day of our salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2), we can quote those words of the Psalmist without focusing on a certain day but on each day. After all, can you really think of a day in your life that the Lord did not give you, even before you were saved (Psalm 39:5)? So, let us rejoice and be glad everyday, as Rev. Reggie McBride says, “No Matter What.” Blessings!
