HANDLING DEATH

Scripture says, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). Death is basically separation in three aspects:

  1. The body from the spirit (James 2:26)

  2. The soul from the Lord (Isa. 59:2)

  3. Eternal separation in hell (Matt. 25:46)

The first one applies to physical death The second one applies to an unsaved person still in this life. The third one applies to a person who dies unsaved. Death is not really something we handle. Adam’s sin brought it into the world, and it invaded every person born since then. It handles us. In fact, we inherited it and thus “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). All humans are subject to all three aspects except those who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior. Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life” (John 5:24). That is, passed out of being unsaved and destined for hell into a saved life and destined for the presence of a loving and gracious God in heaven. Jesus handled death for us. The Bible says, “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:10-11). So, saved people don’t have to fear death because even though we live in sinful flesh and blood, “He Himself (Jesus) likewise also partook of the same (but sinless) that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14). Praise God! Lately, especially in 2019, like an ongoing series, a number of my past acquaintances have departed this life. The good news is that I’ll see them again because they were saved. Thank God, Jesus handled death for us (John 19:30).

Blessings!
