Gotcha! Dead and Alive

Romans 6:11 says, “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:11 NKJV).

What does that mean? First, it means God’s “gotcha” in Christ, i.e., you’re saved. Secondly, you’re dead, not literally (I hope not), but spiritually dead TO sin. You’re dead TO your old life without Christ. At one time you (and I) were dead IN our “trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1-2).

We “live it up” IN sin even though some of us attended church and participated in ministries and activities. We were as lost as can be (I was the worse). Now, as believers, we are dead TO sin. Thirdly, as believers, we are now spiritually “alive to God.” His Word says, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ ( by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-6).

So, God “got us” dead and alive. Back in the Old West days, some criminals would be “Wanted, Dead or Alive” (😄). Thank God that the Holy Spirit “got us” by the gospel, and baptized us into Christ’s body, making us dead and alive at the same time.

Blessings!
