God’s Glory in Sickness & Death

God’s Glory in Sickness & Death

When Jesus got word that Lazarus was sick, though He loved him (John 11:1-3), He didn’t hurry up to go heal him.

Why? The purpose for the sickness which resulted in Lazarus’ death was far more important. It was for the glory of God (11:4). What? Sickness and death for God’s glory? None sense! (a human response). God says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts”

(Isaiah 55:8-9). Wow! So how does God get glory out of sickness and death? By healing the sick if He sees fit (James 5:14-15) and raising the dead as He did for Lazarus (John 11:43-44). God still gets glory out of His children getting sick and dying. He doesn’t always heal but still for His glory (google Johnnie Eriskson Tada), and I would argue that He isn’t raising the dead anymore (Hebrews 9:27). But “Some bright morning when this life is over, (we’ll) fly away,” meaning resurrect with non-decayed and immortal bodies

(1 Corinthians 15:50-57) and be caught up to be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). After all, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die…(John 11:25-26a).

That’s the case with Lazarus is now. Through it all, God’s gets all the glory. Blessings!
