Any Christian, whether pastor, preacher, teacher, counselor, usher, singer, missionary, cook, security and maintenance workers, or any other saved “creature” who refuses to be accountable may as well live as an alienated monk on the dark side of the moon. Since Christians are one in Christ, we’re inevitably accountable firstly to one another, secondly to our spiritual leaders, thirdly to our local church, and fourthly to the body of Christ as a whole (Matt. 18:15-20). If an offender has genuinely repented before the Lord, he will confess his sins to God and to whom he has offended and seek to restore his fellowship. If he feels unaccountable to other believers, he should hold no office nor any other position in the church. We need to heed the following: “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the proud” (Proverbs 16:18-19).
