Can a Christian be a Psychic?

A question was texted to me from a neighbor:

“Happy New Year Sir! I have a question for you, can Christian’s be psychic…Or have psychic abilities?”

My response (not in quotation marks this time):

Happy New Year to you…🙏🏾.

As to your question, first, a psychic is described in various ways - one who communicates with spirits, has extra sensory perception (ESP), performs “miracles,” uses mental powers to “see” into the future. The word itself can means “spirit,” “soul,” or “mind. Communicating with departed spirits is “necromancy.” Communicating with the spirit world is also dangerous and absolutely forbidden by God. That’s because such is demonic (read Acts 16:16-18). Christians are in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit who gives us understanding of God’s word, the Bible (read John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:13-15). That’s how God clearly speaks to us. That’s why Jesus said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32) and Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11). Psychics use the Bible to justify their personal agenda, just as all false prophets do. So, my answer to your question is no. There’s no such thing in Scripture as a Christian psychic. Google the article “The Bible Says ‘No’ to Talking to the Dead.” Closely note the scripture passages:

Leviticus 19:31; 20:27;

Deuteronomy 18:10-13.

I hope this helps.

Blessings!
