“By” and “through” Faith in Romans 3:30

My explanation to a brother who asked me about it:

“Focusing on that ‘by faith’-‘through faith’ matter, we know Paul isn’t talking about two ways of salvation. Jesus is the only way (John 14:6) for both Jews and Gentiles. Paul wrote that God is ‘the God of Gentiles too’ (Rom. 3:29). That being the case, God saves both the same way, “by grace…through faith…by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:8, 11-13). I didn’t find many explanations about the use of the different prepositions (“by” and “through”). It could have just as well read “Jews through faith” and “Gentiles by faith.” Or, since only the Jews were given the Law, it taught them salvation “by” faith. Without the Law, the Gentiles came to salvation “through” faith. In both cases, it was the result of the work of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:3). That’s my best understanding.

Blessings!”
