Black Missionaries

A not-so-well-known black missionary is Lott Carey (1780-1828). Carey is listed in the “One Year Book of Christian History” (pgs. 46-47), and is a worthy source to own.

There's also a YouTube about him called "Forgotten Episode 20, Lott Carey." I can't recall ever hearing about him, but I am so thankful that a friend shared his story. It's a dynamic account of a young black ex-slave who had become a believer, bought his freedom, became a pastor, and later a missionary to Liberia, Africa. I also came across a website that lists other Black Christian missionaries in the past -

There are many more that came along in more modern times. I have personally met some. Their love for Jesus and strong desire for missions compelled them to go beyond their homelands to foreign lands with the gospel. You may already have the YouTube and website information. I'm sharing this in case you haven’t heard stories of black foreign missionaries and may be interested, in maybe becoming one. Their stories are challenging and worth knowing about.

Blessings!
