Be Prayerful and Wise

In light of the threat of contracting the Coronavirus, we must be praying for God’s protection and use every precaution to avoid coming in contact with the virus. Two passages come to mind as I think of the current situation in our world. The first is James 5:14-16. Visits from the elders of the church may not be possible but prayer by way of a phone call, FaceTime, and other video-calling apps are helpful means to communicate. The other one is 3 John 2. Again, prayer is done for good physical health, even though one’s spiritual health is “prosperous.” A physically healthy body is very important even though it doesn’t necessarily hinder a life of fulfillment and service for the Lord. Although heavily involved in evangelistic and missionary service, the Apostle Paul struggled with a health issue (2 Cor. 12:7-10). So did Timothy (1 Tim. 5:23). Joni Eareckson Tada (born 1949), an evangelical Christian and paralyzed from the neck down since age 17 from a swimming accident, is an author, radio host, charity provider, and artist. Therefore, God uses His committed children regardless. However, He also gives us the wisdom to take care of our “temples.” We can’t control the outbreak and spread of viruses, but we can protect ourselves and our families as much as possible. The rest is in the hands of the Lord. We should remember that “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Therefore, we have spiritual healing from sin, the real cause of death (Romans 5:12). But, let’s also make sure we’re doing what we should to maintain excellent health. Blessings! From Lackland Air Force Base: Basic prevention techniques for any virus are:

Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and especially before you eat! (Two rounds of the “Happy Birthday” song.)

Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth until you’ve washed your hands.

Use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands

Keep frequently-touched objects and surfaces clean and disinfected

Avoid close contact with those who are sick

Stay away from others if you’re feeling ill. Children with a fever should stay home from school until their temperature has been normal (less than 100°F per the student handbook) for at least 24 hours without the assistance of medication and their symptoms have improved.
