A New Year (2020) to Worship the Lord

Worship is encouraged in Scripture: “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2). The “beauty of holiness” is God’s majesty reflected in the works of His creation (Psalm 104:24). Therefore, true worship of God requires that a worshipper be holy (Lev. 11:44). Besides God, only holy angels and saved people are holy and therefore the only ones who can truly worship God. Scripture also says, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24). Note that Jesus said, “now is,” which extends all the way to the present. “true worshippers” are true believers in Christ. “worship the father” means to fully yield yourself to Him (Rom. 6:13) and give Him the highest honor from the depths of your heart (Psalm 111:1). “God is a Spirit” should be “God is spirit,” referring to His essential non-physical being. “In spirit” (being sincerely committed to Him) and “in truth” (based on the truth about Him) are my understanding of those words. Whatever the Bible says about God is absolutely true. Let’s not let the world of 2020, with all its turbulence and satanic influence, impede our worship of our awesome God. Keep in mind that our God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, and holy (which includes His love, grace, and mercy). Finally, no one else deserves our worship. Jesus said, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only” (Matthew 4:10).

Blessings!
