A Holy Kiss. Really?

But I Have a Beautiful Wife. I Have a Handsome Husband.

A text came stating…“Hey fellas I pray you all are having a blessed day so far. I have a question what does it mean to greet one with a holy kiss? I’ve heard it before but have forgotten what it meant. I was reading romans 16:1-16 and the question was from this passage of scripture!… But some males can take that a bit far and that’s why I watch my bride when people give her a hug.”

My Response: “I don’t blame you. Especially when it comes to strangers. The words ‘holy kiss’ are always used in reference to Christian greetings, not nonChristian (see also 1 Cor. 16:20; 2 Cor. 13:12; 1 Thess. 5:26). It is not a command, but an encouragement to do when it’s appropriate and in an appropriate way. We nor our spouses are to kiss another grown person (regardless of gender) on the lips nor with passion even if on the cheek. Plus, hugs should be very modest (not arm-wrapping like a woman once did to me, embarrassing me a lot). Strangers of the opposite sex should get only a handshake. Our wives are ‘one flesh’ with us, and the slightest thing that disturbs that should be avoided. Sinful flesh is saturated with lust, and James wrote, ‘But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren’ (James 1:14-16). In other words, ‘WATCH OUT!’

PS – Please read Proverbs 6:32-35

Blessings!
